ECB Bank Regulations

European Central Bank has newly established a Single Supervisory Mechanism for banks from the Euro zone countries and all the banks in Euro zone will now be supervised directly by ECB or indirectly by the ECB through the national regulators. This in combination with the single rule book of the European Banking Authority is simplifying the regulatory reporting process for the Euro zone banks while at the same increasing the comprehensiveness and effectiveness of the reporting and supervision by ECB. Both these changes, in addition to the many other changes happening in the regulation and supervision of the banks will radically transform the banks. Banks will fundamentally need to alter the way they collate, organise and report to the regulators. More importantly there will be significant changes as to how banks’ manage and control their activities. We believe in the decades to come regulations will be the single driving force for banks to focus in terms of how they offer new products, how they focus on their clients and how well they are able to comply with it terms of the cost of implementing the regulations while at the same time differentiating themselves to their clients.
