We believe the following trends will dominate the world in the decades to come.

The globally interconnected world is coming out of one of the worst recessions of recent times and still reeling under a decline of living standards for most of the middle class.  With people at large confused about the actual reasons behind the cause of the recession, the world is likely to witness two major trends:

  • Increase in taxation. Both the rich and large corporations will be taxed more, but these would be more of fines for large corporations and taxation of overseas assets and profits
  • Increase in regulation targeted towards large corporations especially large banks to enable new and paradigm shifts in the industry or to monitor the health of the institutions in a very intrusive manner by the regulators to protect the overall system

On a multi century level, the world is moving from a very localised and rural agricultural economy of the pre 1800s to the industrial economies of large urban concentration of the 1800s and 1900s to the information economy of the 2000s. This has the power to dismantle the large urban concentration to a much more interconnected and value addition based economic network.

Many of the boundaries that exist today in terms of countries and companies will give way to a globally interconnected value network of people, associations and companies delivering products and services to clients. The power of this trend is slowly manifesting itself as cloud, social networks and mobile digital revolution we see in the market place today.

To help our members capitalise on these trends, Unique Value Networks is focusing on these areas:

  • Target2 Securities (T2S) is a platform created by the European Central Bank to harmonise the  European post trade settlement and enable the creation of a truly single European capital markets. This is the continuation of the many European Commission directives that were issued to create the single European monetary union. • Large and systemically important banks are regulated in a manner never before to report diverse set of information to a variety of regulators at short notice. This is posing a near existential threat to these large banks and they need to quickly and radically alter their data architecture and reporting mechanism to the regulators. To know more on the trends in Regulatory Reporting visit NetworkFocus AreasECB Bank Regulation of our web-site which is targeted towards reporting by large banks in European Union to the European Central Bank
  • The payment industry is poised for true revolution into the information age and economy combining so many exciting new technology possibilities. It is extending the reach of the traditional bank channels far beyond and reaching a vast group of the un-banked people in developing countries. Where will be this industry in the future. Will banks still have a role to play or will it be dominated by the Apples, Googles, PayPals and Vodafones of the world!
